SEVERINE DE LA CHAPELLE

Séverine moved to Reims and enrolled at the École Blot in 1995 where she became acquainted with applied arts techniques, initially exploring them for herself and close friends. Some of these techniques would continue to influence her creations years later. In 2010, she opened Fifth Element in Singapore, a decor shop where she gathered authentic and inspiring objects from Asia. She became captivated by the spiritual symbolism of each piece, and the concept of light and shadow began to shape her decorative work.

During a visit to Japan in December 2014, she discovered paper sculpture, a revelation that transformed her artistic path. Fascinated by the finesse and precision of the art, she incorporated its principles into her work. Eleven years in Asia left a lasting impact: the delicacy of Japanese art and the depth of Korean Dansaekhwa inspire her quest for balance between repetition and mindfulness, enriching her creative approach with a new dimension.

Back in Europe in 2016, she settled in Estoril, Portugal, where her studio overlooks the sea. Here, she experiments with relief using techniques such as gold leaf and gilded wax, continually seeking to evolve her forms and language. Her works reflect the lightness and discipline of her Asian influences, infused with her personal sensitivity. Séverine first exhibited in Sintra (SintArt) in October 2021, followed by Lisbon in March 2022. In May 2022, the curator Adeline du Chastel introduced her work in Nyon, Switzerland, with great success. Since then, Séverine joined Delamour gallery in Paris .
