SAM BLOCH

Samuel Bloch (b. 1993, Paris) is a contemporary French painter and multidisciplinary artist recognized for his raw, gestural approach to figurative abstraction and monotype on paper. A graduate of the London College of Communication (2017), Bloch initially trained in graphic design before shifting toward a more instinctive, painterly practice.

Represented by galleries in Paris and New York, including Michele Mariaud Gallery, Bloch has developed a body of work that merges drawing, painting, and printmaking into a highly physical visual language. His compositions often begin with observed reality—sketches, personal memories, or photographic fragments—before dissolving into expressive, dreamlike forms.

Bloch is particularly noted for his monotype works, where immediacy and unpredictability play a central role. Each piece exists as a unique imprint, balancing spontaneity with compositional control, and reinforcing his interest in process over perfection.

Influenced by art brut, street culture, and abstract expressionism, his work reflects a generation of artists navigating between analog gesture and contemporary image culture. Alongside painting, Bloch explores animation, sculpture, and digital media, expanding his practice beyond traditional formats.

Based in Paris, Samuel Bloch is part of a new wave of emerging European artists redefining contemporary abstract painting and experimental works on paper, with growing visibility in international gallery programs.
