Nicole Pietrantoni is an American artist best known for her colorful paper sculptures. Drawing on her training as a printmaker and bookbinder, Pietrantoni creates inkjet-printed accordion books that unfold into wall-mounted compositions. Strips of printed paper zigzag down the wall in grids, revealing fragments of abstract landscapes and still lifes. When collapsed, her accordion books fit modestly in the hand, but when expanded, they are bold—fluorescent pinks reflect on the wall, flowers burst into view, pixels dissolve and resolve.
She is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Fulbright to Iceland, an Artist Trust Fellowship, and the Manifest Prize. She has been a visiting artist and lecturer at over 40 institutions, and her work has been exhibited in over 100 national and international shows, including solo exhibitions at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art and the Manifest Gallery. Group venues include exhibitions at Galerie Gardette in Paris, Galleri Heike Arndt in Berlin, the San Francisco Center for the Book, the American University Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Lia Libro de Artista in Mexico. Her work has been included in Art in Print and The Washington Post and featured in American Printmakers.
She received her MFA and MA in printmaking from the University of Iowa and her BS in human and organizational development and art history from Vanderbilt University. She currently lives and works in Girona, Spain..
