ERIC MERCIER
Eric Mercier (b. 1973, Paris) is a French multidisciplinary artist whose practice combines photography, screen printing, engraving and painting. Working from his own analog and digital photographs, Mercier constructs layered images in which transparent inks, engraved lines and fields of color transform photography into richly textured, almost sculptural objects. A member of the collective screen-printing workshop at Paris's Cité internationale des arts since 2014, he lives and works in Paris.

His recent body of work explores botanical gardens and the historic Serres d'Auteuil in Paris. Photographs of palms, ferns and greenhouse architecture are transferred, engraved, screen-printed and painted directly onto metal plates—a material that echoes the nineteenth-century structures of the greenhouses themselves. Through overlapping imagery, transparency and metallic reflections, Mercier blurs the boundaries between photography, painting, printmaking and sculpture, creating atmospheric works in which nature and architecture seem to merge.
